IMPORTATION AND THE ECONOMY

 The  psychology of our  consumption  pattern cannot  be   explained without looking at  the engineering design of our reasoning faculty.

It is not corperate or even regarded  as a  taboo in some workplaces to see you in a native attire .

A job applicant in native wear has automatically lost that job as if it is the wear that is going to help him or her  speak good English language or do the intending task .

Many churches will not allow you minister or coordinate  except you put 'rope' on your neck and preferably  with a jacket ,no matter how sunny that Sunday is ?

The Muslim must dress like those in Saudi Arabia to show that they are Alfas and  fluent in Arabic language

 .

The textile industry was among the leading sectors of employers of labour in early 1980s.What a great loss of job in our motherland .

The  students in schools must be in  shirt and short or long ,otherwise our children may not understand what the teachers are teaching them !,What a destroyed sense of reasoning !

An automobile plant was established in the country only for our leaders to shun the locally  made vehicles for imported ones .What type of example to the public ?

Worst of all is the neglect of output from our farmland .Many have a great detest for locally grown rice or beans.

Many have vowed not to have anything to do with locally grown rice because it has tinny stones and they cannot spend few minutes to pick and wash properly 

Ironically ,the same people are those querrying why is the country  not a producer nation but  only a stupid consumer  ?

A young man struggling to get marry must buy imported wedding gown for the bride ,even if he has to take loan and have no food on his table after wedding day !

Frankly ,our consumption pattern  cannot  make our economy grow.The multiplier effect of our purchases is not felt in our economy .

Local firms close down on daily basis .Workers are retrenched in large numbers ,and poverty creeps into life of the citizens .

There is need for reorientation of our people on the menace of importation.  The case is just synonymous to the proverbial saying that 'monkey dey work baboon dey chop ! '
