Parenting -A key to discipline
Parenting : A key to discipline
Parenting simply put means home nurturing and mentoring of a child to conform with the acceptable societal standard.
The kind of nurturing a child has in the formative ages has great effect on the child personality formation .It has been stamped that home is the first source of value
Parenting has its roots in certain factors that in turns shape the life and conformity of a child in a society.
Among these are
1.Upbringing :
Upbringing affect mannerism and tends to dictate human behaviour. Meanwhile, when one could not correct any possible negativities from toddler to teenager, definitely, such filters into the life and parenting style
Thus, the child called pupil ,student , learner, apprentice or whatever name takes the charity from home to such learning places. Imagine a student being envious of another student to the point of stealing her physics note , tore and flushed into the toilet ! Why? for scoring 10 over 10 always in physics or being the overall best .That is the level of dangerous jealousy among students of nowadays .
Many students talk back at teachers because that is their home practice, unfortunately, it is seen as freedom of expression . Aggressiveness and violence is just normal in some homes and so the child will not see any good in tolerance and amicable settlement of issues . The social media was sometimes agog with the video of a student beating her fellow student to death, murder !. Revenge and taking upper hand is the way of life of some families.
2.The prevailing physical environment of the home : According to the popular saying "when in Rome do like the Romans". What you see , whom you see, the peers and so on have great influence on the children that add up to the fabric of their lifestyles which is taken to school to influence others. Ghettoism is characterized with violence ,use of unpolished words , exposed lifestyle resulting to immorality and gangsterism. This is one of the bedrock of college cultism and other derived crimes .
3.The spiritual nature of the family:.
Religious deceit from the alter to our fathers and mothers has trickled down to the youths and children in the families . godliness for Godliness, Wealthiness for holiness. "Poverty is a disease and must be cured by any means" . Pastors and Alfas being caught among money ritual suspects!. Many of these children know the "corner corner ways" of their parents. Imagine secondary schools students selling their mates to ritualist , mother aiding her son to use his undergraduate fiancee for money ritual. Immorality and zero family value : father and son gang raping their house girl .Surely is just a matter of time for such student to bring his rapping tactic into the school.
4. Economic situation
Family income determines the rate of family provision and well being.Inability of the family to provide basic necessities both for domestic and educational purposes breed certain vices among the students .Some spoilt children take the advantage of the vulnerable ones to lure them into crime. Poor student is being promised peanuts if he allows them to copy his work during examination .Some financially disadvantaged female students find themselves at the mercy and care of the rich boys but to pay back in kind!
5. The emotional bonding of the family :
Many couples live like cat and dog. Absence of love , mistrust, disrespect ,misunderstanding , just to mention a few of the endless negative relationship between many couples whom the children see as father and mother. All these homebuilt discord define such a student relationship with the mates. A student from such home will not help peers to take "lost and found " notes, He cannot "shift" on his seat to accommodate mate when need arises , look down on teachers especially in private schools, afterall their parents have paid school fee. They bully other students just as dad beats mum at every slightest unwarranted situation.
Thus, it is indisputable that home and parenting has great influence on students mannerisms and persistent increase in the rate of indiscipline in our society .
