The famous  British Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua  was involved in a fatal accident  along Lagos -Ogun -Ibadan  expressway in Nigeria 

The 36-year old boxer has consistently associated with his  family roots in Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, south-west Nigeria .He was  on his way to his hometown when the accident occurred. 

The crash that resulted in star boxer Anthony Joshua being hospitalized with minor injuries with two out of the five dead occurred when the speeding jeep he was in lost control “during an overtaking maneuver,” that made the car ran into a stationary truck according to the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria.

“To this end, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed on behalf of the entire Management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured victims  a speedy recovery,”.

According to the boxer's promoter Matchroom  in a statement said Joshua  lost two people close to him : his long time friend Latif  Ayodele popular called "Latz" and conditioning coach Ghami,.
The  emotional impact of the lost  is impossible to measure. Ghami was by his side throughout fight week in Miami, and joined him in the ring after his win over Paul.


The Ogun state police commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo said  “I can confirm to you that an accident occurred and the victim has been taken to the hospital,” he says.


Video footage circulating on social media shows Joshua being assisted from the wreckage, visibly shaken but alive. Emergency responders and traffic officials arrived promptly, with the Federal Road Safety Corps helping to secure the area and manage traffic

Joshua had only just returned to the ring after more than a year out, beating Jake Paul on Netflix in what was a huge pay day earning about $92m  and he was in Nigeria simply to spend New Year with family when this tragedy happened.

The plan had been for Joshua to fight again in Saudi Arabia in February before eventually moving towards the long-talked-about Tyson Fury bout later in 2026.
