President Trump on Gaza cease fire plan
At the end of intense Negotiations for three days in Egypt, US President Donald Trump says Israel and Hamas have "signed off on the first phase" of the 20-point peace plan .
Trump said "This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," he posted on social media, without providing further details about what the first phase entails.
This came after two years and two days of the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others taken hostage.
This was followed by a massive Israeli military offensive in Gaza, which has killed more than 67,000people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. This figures are seen as accurate by the UN and other international organisations
Israel's government approved the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release plan early on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement
Good big step but More big steps needed for evalasting peace
Hamas wants Israel out of the Gaza Strip. Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that will not happen.
Hamas is prepared to give up heavy weapons but wants to keep some armaments. Netanyahu wants the complete demilitarisation of Gaza.
Netanyahu has said victory for Israel is beyond simply the return of the hostages. Hamas must be destroyed, with no chance of regenerating .
Recall in 2024 President ,the Joe Biden deal o Then, Hamas agreed that it would release Israeli hostages if the IDF pulled out of the Gaza Strip and there were guarantees that Israel would not restart the war. Netanyahu was not prepared to agree.
Netanyahu insisted repeatedly that continuing the war was the only way to get the hostages back and to destroy Hamas.
