15 importance of Reflective teaching
A standard test process must possess certain qualities to ensure assessment validity .
Test Validity can be subdivided into two :
1. Internal validity
2.External validity
1) Internal validity : This refers to the components involved as at the time or during the period of writing the examination by the students
This comprises
I) Face validity : Clear and easily understandable instruction is important on the questions papers Ambiguous instructions can mislead students to choose wrong question combinations .
Also, clear print out (not faded) correct spellings ,well labelled diagrams and tables etc are keys.
All these aid students comprehension of question statements that give acceptability and validity to examinations
ii) Content validity,: This entails test topics and subtopics relative to the curriculum . Every evaluation is subjected to certain curriculum scope such as coverage, level or class , age , course or profession and so on .
Any evaluation that fails to measure the designed scope, either falling below or above designed curriculum objective and standard has no validity
iii) Genuity validity: Examination questions leakage is a monster that must be eradicated by Examination bodies , schools and all agencies and stakeholders concerned .
Also how a test is administered is important. Firm and strict supervision prevents cheating such copying , writing on micro writing on papers , on inner body, smuggling gadgets into test hall etc .
Malpractice is evil that must be prevented to ensure evaluation validity.
2 External validity : This entails post or after the students have written the examination
The standard for external validity constitute post examination criterion such as
I) Objective marking : Fairness in marking with no sentiment or emotional sense , feeling or connection to name , tribe, region , belief or religious affiliation and soon is a very important factor in evaluation validity.
Markers must be free of emotional feeling in order to have a fair and just outcome from marking and grading exercise .
Results must reflect the measure of ability and performance of every students
iI)Effective marking guide : This is important to provide uniform marking basis for all the makers .Lack of clear and functional marking guide to be followed by all involved markers brings about individual instincts and discrepancies in marking and test outcomes .
This undermines fairness and equality , and jeopardise examination validity
iii) Qualified markers: A key point to good marking is subject mastery of the markers , especially in marking theory questions.. Students give answers from divergent views that requires professionalism in relation to the marking guide
Markers' subject mastery ensures appropriate marking with no marking down and no over grading of Students This help reduce percentage error in grading which give true measure of ability of students in evaluation exercise
